Val Brewer studied painting as a continuing education student at the Rhode Island School of Design. Over the past 15 years she has exhibited her paintings in galleries in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Hawaii. She primarily paints landscapes in oil.

More recently, Val has taken up art quilting using the rich textures of fabric to create landscapes and portraits. Works have been hung individually, mounted in shadow boxes, or combined to make wall hangings.

Before becoming a full-time artist, Val was a practicing clinical psychologist for twenty years, having received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College and her PhD in psychology from the University of Rhode Island. She lives in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, on the island of Hawai'i, with her husband and two basset hounds.
